Lifestyle sessions are quickly becoming my favorite type of photography. There is something so intimate and authentic about being in your home, watching your family interact naturally, and capturing those moments. I absolutely love it. I feel like these are going to be the pictures you look back on 50 years from now and they help you to remember that moment and transport you back in time for a brief while- vividly remembering your family in this season of life.
Lifestyle is honest. It's unapologetic.
A bit about our session...
-Wear what makes you feel good. I am a big fan of neutrals and soft tones because they photograph beautifully, but I want you to wear what is natural to you and your family. I don't mind outfit changes if you'd like to switch it up!
-If you aren't completely ready by the time I arrive, don't worry- it will take me about 10 minutes to scout out some good locations around your home, get a feel for the lighting, and get my equipment set up.
-You don't need to go on a crazy cleaning frenzy the day before. I just recommend having your home tidy and straightened as you would if company were coming over. Let me know once I arrive which rooms I am allowed to use for our session. I may ask to rearrange some furniture or distracting elements, but I'll be sure to put it back. Don't worry if you don't have a Pinterest-perfect home! It's my job to make it work, whatever the circumstances.
-I will get the more traditional, posed picture of everyone smiling at the camera, but I prefer to have you doing activities throughout our session- it keeps you relaxed and results in authentic expressions and real connections. (It also keeps the children very happy;) ) Do you love to bake cookies with your 4 year old? Hang out on the porch drinking coffee with your spouse? Let's do it! If you need help thinking of activities, let me know.
-Speaking of kids...let them be little! Don't freak if they're not looking at the camera or doing the activity they're "supposed" to be doing. Children are going to do whatever they want to do- I know this and I expect this. But those "imperfections" you think you see? That is where the magic is! Rambunctious kids jumping on the bed or throwing sand at their sibling? That’s photographic gold. Besides, most children are bad actors. ;) Just chill and let things unfold naturally. I don't want to have to throw out an otherwise priceless photo because mama has an annoyed look on her face or dad is frowning.
-If you aren't sure what to do, just talk to each other & play! Want photos of you all looking happy & natural? Be happy & natural. I know it's weird to have a camera following you around your home, and usually the first few minutes of a session are a bit awkward and unnatural- and that is okay. Everyone will warm up eventually. I will give you guidance and direct you if I feel the need, but otherwise I try to be as unobtrusive as possible and just capture what I am seeing. Try not to worry that you're not doing the "right" thing or that nothing exciting is happening. Building a block castle, making dinner, or even just sitting on the front steps laughing are ordinary activities that can result in extraordinary photographs. Smile at each other, have fun, relax, and your pictures will reflect that joy. I promise.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER
We had the best time together, right? :) In the days following our session, you can expect to see some "sneak peeks" on Facebook- feel free to tag/share! I am always so flattered when clients use my photos on social media, I just ask that you give me a tag to help spread the word. Your full gallery will be ready within two weeks of the session, and I will email you the link for access. The download process is simple, but if you have any issues please don't hesitate to contact me. Although you'll receive a print release, you are able to order professional grade prints through your gallery. I cannot stress enough that is does matter where you get your photos printed! www.mpix.com is a more affordable alternative, and is available to the public. I am passionate about getting your photos off of your computer and onto your walls- beautiful canvas wraps, high-quality photo books, and premium prints are all amazing ways to preserve your memories for years to come. Your great-grandchildren won't be holding a hard drive, they'll be holding an actual photograph of you.
Full payment (cash, check, or card) is due at the time of the session.
