Elopements hold such a special place in my heart. I only have two (not so great) photos from the day my husband & I ran off to the courthouse. So when Cass emailed me about photographing their city hall elopement, I was beyond excited.
It was particularly cold this day. I mean, it's Upstate NY in the winter so you know it's going to be cold, but seriously this day it was f r e e z i n g. Our original plan was to take photos outside after the ceremony- Cass was fresh off the plane from Arizona and I'm just a silly Southern girl. We tried that for about 3 minutes then were like...nope no thank you. So I sat in my car while we warmed back up & wracked my brain for a good indoor space we could use. I remembered the Commons on Fort Drum, so we made our way over there. Fortunately, the workers had no problem with us invading their space and traipsing all over the place to shoot. Cass & Junior were amazing sports, up for anything, and went along with all of my spur-of-the-moment ideas. (Even having their "first dance" in a random hallway while not so first dance-esque music played. ;)) Cass was absolutely gorgeous in her gown, and I was a little obsessed with her tattoos. (Seriously, I want more brides with tats! Amazing.) And of course Junior was handsome in those dress blues.
In looking back on the photos, one thing that strikes me is the way Junior is looking at Cass in almost all of them. I don't think I really caught it in person when I was with them, but seeing it now...wow. You can just see how much he cherishes her. The adoration in both of their eyes is apparent. They were so natural together, and needed very little prompting from me. I've said it a million times, but I'll say it again: I love love. And these two have it.
Thank you both for letting me tag along on such an incredibly special day! I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
